Halibut closes for harvest on Tuesdays from mid-July, as well as the year-wide Wednesday closure. Homer's summer fishing season is in full swing, and boy, are you in for a treat. Monster Halibut and Rockfish are taking baits on the bottom. During the most recent fish survey, the catch rate of white crappie dropped to only 4 per hour. The management objective is 25 to 50 white crappie per hour. The average catch rate since 2011 is 61.7 white crappie per hour.

The lake has opened its doors to bathers around May and September. By bike you can fully enjoy the picturesque landscape of Lake Diemelsee. When cycling around the lake you also have the opportunity to rest on beautiful beaches and hop into the water if you want to refresh yourself.

The lake is a hidden jewel of green and blue surrounded by dark green forest. Thickets of bulrush wands hide the most secretive wildlife and fish. At the north end, water drains into a porous rim of lava. The best way to experience this lake is by canoe, but a shoreline hike will still produce wondrous sights and sounds.

Homer fishing charters can get you on unimaginable amounts of big, tasty fish. Spend a day battling monster King Salmon, “barn door” Halibut, or deep-water delicacies like Rockfish and Lingcod. What you catch is up to you, with a trip for every combination. Whatever you choose, you’ll end the day with enough fresh fillets to feed an army. Homer is the hal­ibut cap­i­tal of Alas­ka, and this long­time char­ter com­pa­ny offers a blue-chip way to get to the fish. They have high-qual­i­ty boats, expe­ri­enced cap­tains, and enthu­si­as­tic crews — as well as an inside line on find­ing hal­ibut, rock fish and sil­ver salmon.

On the southern shore at the entrance is the large sandy beach with snack bar, sanitary facilities, beach volleyball and barbecue area. East are many trees (hammock ...), steps and paths you go down to many small bays down. And in the middle of the lake a small bath island floats. The largest lake in the Rhine-Main region, with its 58 hectares, is only 15 km south of Frankfurt. 900 meters of sandy beach offer plenty of space for swimmers and surfers. Here is also very much like camping and fishing.

An eight-hour Salmon or Halibut charter will cost you around $300–$350 per person. Combo trips are a little extra, especially if you’re targeting Rockfish. Even so, a 10-hour Halibut and Rockfish combo won’t usually be much more than $400 per person. Don’t forget, you can save a fair amount of money by booking the whole boat if you already have a group. Combo trips are the ultimate way to load up on fish. You can target Halibut and Salmon, Halibut and Rockfish, or all three.

Standard full days target smaller fish in local waters. Extended charters go after the big “barn doors” farther away. Bear in mind that, by law, you can’t catch Halibut on Wednesdays, or on Tuesdays mid-July through mid-August.
